Loïck Peyron & STERED
An iconic figure in sailing, Loïck Peyron crossed the finish line of the Route du Rhum wearing our Adventurer of the Seas T-shirt. A finish that has since held a special place in the history of STERED.
The spirit of the great explorers
For several decades, Loïck Peyron has written some of the finest chapters in offshore racing. A passionate sailor and lover of the sea, he shares STERED’s love of the open ocean and character-filled adventures.
40 YEARS LATER
In 2018, Loïck Peyron set off on the Route du Rhum aboard Happy, the small trimaran with which he paid tribute to Mike Birch, winner of the very first edition in 1978.
Without modern navigation instruments, he recreated the racing conditions of that era. Twenty-one days later, he reached Guadeloupe, improving Mike Birch's time from forty years earlier by more than two days.
This was an even more remarkable challenge given that Loïck Peyron had won the Route du Rhum four years earlier aboard a maxi-trimaran of over 30 meters, in just over seven days. In 2018, there was no pursuit of records or cutting-edge technology: he chose a small trimaran from another era to recapture the spirit of the pioneers and tell, in his own way, the history of the race.
The adventure continues
From Saint-Malo to Pointe-à-Pitre, this crossing tells a certain story of the sea that STERED holds dear: one of great departures, challenges, and stories that stand the test of time.
Aboard Happy, Loïck Peyron chose to return to basics, to sail differently, and to pay tribute to the pioneers of offshore racing. An adventure defined less by technology than by experience, patience, and a deep-seated connection to the sea.
Seeing the Aventurier des Mers cross the Atlantic alongside Loïck Peyron naturally gives this model a special place in the brand's history. After all, it is hard to imagine a voyage that better suits its name.
